Terror revisits Srinagar, one dead

Srinagar, August 02: Violence revisited Srinagar after a long time when militants struck in the heart of the city and shot at two CRPF men and a J&K policeman in two different places leaving one dead and two others injured one of them critically.

The two incidents occurred in the span of 30 minutes in the two kilometer area from Regal Chowk to Batamaloo. The first incident occurred at 11.30 am at Regal Chowk when two suspected militants armed with small weapons fired at two CRPF men, of 132-battalion who were on duty, from point blank range leaving them in a pool of blood.

It was after few minutes that police came to the spot and rushed the injured to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).”The injured CRPF men have been identified as BD Ghosh of West Bengal and Firdous Ahmad Bhat of Baramulla North Kashmir. Ghosh’s condition is stated to be critical. He has been shifted to Intensive Care Unit”, said Prabhakar Tripathi, the CRPF spokesman.

Within 30 minutes militants struck at Batamaloo just two kilometers from Regal Chowk and fired upon constable Mohammad Shafi Bhat of Noorpora-Tral in south Kashmir leaving him dead on the spot. Deputy Inspector General of Police, central Kashmir range, Hemant Kumar Lohia said they suspect that it was the same group of militants who struck at the two different places.
