Hyderabad, February 1: 7 prisoners and some jail warders besides deputy jailer injured as a result of terrible clash between some Muslim prisoners of Cherlapally jail and jail staff. Sources say that the police allegedly opened fire in air in jail premises during the clash.
It is believed that the new jail superintendent Mr. Srinivas had taken charge of the Cherlapally central jail on Monday. Following information that some of the inmates were using mobile phones at 5:30 on Monday evening deputy jailer Hanumanth Rao and three warders shifted the prisoners in their respective barracks and conducted search.
It has been told that the jail staff barged into a special Papagni barrack and started conducting search of Muslim prisoners when they were having meals.
Biased treatment was meted out to Muslim prisoners for long on the basis of prejudice. They were being harassed by depriving them of basic rights. Due to the surprise search and maltreatment the Muslim prisoners asked the jail staff to go away from there and strongly protested against the misbehaviour of jail staff as a result the jail staff indiscriminately caned the prisoners present in the barrack which lead to a terrible clash between jail staff and prisoners.
Shortly the guards present at jail watch towers started sounding siren following which all the staff gathered there to stop the prisoners protest.
It is said that 22 Muslim prisoners have been kept in papagni barrack including task force office blast 2005 accused Mohammad Kaleem, Mahmood Barood Wala of Bidar, Syed Haji of moosa Ram Bagh, Shakeel of Ladbazar and others.
Following the reports of indiscriminate canning by jail staff on Muslim prisoners, prisoners’ parents reached the jail however jail staff refused to provide details of the incident to them.
Shortly MBT corporator Amjad Ullah Khan Khalid reached the jail and enquired about the matter and later on strongly protested against jail staff’s misbehaviour.
Mahmood Barood wala, Abdul Kaleem, Syed Haji and other 4 Muslim prisoners suffered severe injuries during the clash and they were shifted to the hospital located in the jail premises itself. While deputy jailor Hanumanth Rao was shifted to NIMS and other jail staff were shifted to private hospitals through ambulance.
