Hyderabad, June 03: The Election Commission today finalised the term of office of the three Legislative Council members who were newly elected from the Local Authorities Constituencies who included two members in Hyderabad LAC and one member in Rangareddy LAC, through draw of lots.
Accordingly, in the draw of lots conducted by the State Legislature Secretary S Raja Sadaram in the presence of Chief Electoral Officer IV Subba Rao and Election Commission secretary Ajay Kumar at Jubilee Hall here, P Narender Reddy of TDP, MS Prabhakar Rao (Congress) and Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri (MIM) would continue as members of the State Legislative Council till May 1, 2015 (i.e. for five years) 2013 (three years) and 2011 (one year), respectively.
As elections to the three seats were earlier deferred, the term of office of the newlyelected three members is determined separately. Henceforth, all the newlyelected members to the Council will have a sixyear term. As per Article 172 of the Constitution, nearly 1/3rd of the members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council will retire every second year.
