Tension at toll plazas in morning, Collection of toll

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Panthangi and Korlapahad toll plazas on National Highway 65 for a few hours on Sunday morning when vehicle drivers entered into arguments with the toll gate staff when the latter insisted on paying the toll for passing through the gate.

While the travellers pointed out that the government had waived the toll for today (Sunday), the tollgate staff countered saying hat they did not receive any orders to this effect. This led to severe arguments, resulting in long line of vehicles and it was only after 10.30 a.m., after the Choutuppal police reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitated travelers on one hand and the toll gate staff, who insisted that collection of toll would be stopped only after receiving instructions from the National Highways Authority of India.
The police informed their superiors and after a while, the tollgate staff began allowing vehicles to pass through without insisting on paying the toll.

It may be mentioned that late Saturday night, the State Government ordered that toll should not be collected on highways on Sunday and again on January 16, the two days when the vehicle rush is expected to be the highest with people leaving the city to go their villages to celebrate Sankranti festival and return to city.
