Tension in Rajasthan’s Sikar after bus hits biker Yunus Bhati

SIKAR: Tension erupted in Rajasthan’s Sikar when a state roadways bus hit a motorcycle leaving the rider critically injured.

The violence broke out on Thursday at around 5:30 pm on Fatehpur road when a bike rider identified as Yunus Bhati was critically injured after being hit by a bus.

The 25-year-old Yunus is a resident of Ward Number – 10 in Sikar.

After the incident, a mob of angry residents gathered and went on a rampage accusing the bus driver of driving under the influence of alcohol and killing Yunus.

Police from nearby outpost rushed to the spot.

The angry crowd smashed the glass windows of the bus and also torched the vehicle, promoting the police to lob teargas shells to disperse the mob.

They also set some other vehicles on fire by throwing flammable material and also pelted stones at the police when they attempted to rescued the driver. The rampage lasted for about 2 hours.

According to Sikar’s Additional SP Dr Tejpal Singh told DNA, “A person was injured in an accident with a bus. The crowd damaged the bus and set it on fire. The crowd also pelted stones at the police. Police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas. Around half a dozen persons including two policemen have been injured.”

The injured Yunus was referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur from Sikar Kalyan Hospital in a critical condition where he died while undergoing treatment, reported Patrika.

More than 100 tear shells were fired and over 50 youths were taken into custody on the spot. Police registered a case against the bus driver and the persons who deliberately cause damage to the public property.

Apart from this, more than 150 homes have been searched.

Heavy reinforcement has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. It remained tense even on Friday as police personnel continuously patrolling the area panicking the local shop-keepers to keep the shutters down.
