Hyderabad, April 21: Tension mounted as scores of Praja Telangana Samiti actvisits tried to storm the Executive Committee Meeting of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) called to finalise its arguments before the Srikrishna Committee constituted to look into the demand for statehood to the Telangana Region.
The PRP has been asked to appear before the Srikrishna Committee to put forth its views in the issue.
A high drama was witnessed as police bodily lifted the activists of the PTS, who broke away from the PRP, after Party Chief K Chiranjeevi reversed the party’s stand in support of united Andhra Pradesh after promising support of creation of new Telangana state in its manifesto for the 2009 simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly.
The PTS activists raised ”Jai Telangana” slogans before they were whisked away by the police.
Meanwhile, the actor-turned-politician asserted in the party Meeting that he would tour the Telangana Region to campaign for united Andhra Pradesh. ”Let me see, who will stop me from visiting the Telangana Region?” he asked.
Dismissing as ”rumours” that the party was toying with the idea of merging itself with the ruling Congress, he said such ”ill-motivated campaign has been carried out by those having vested interests”.
