Tension prevailed at the MGM hospital here on Sunday when the TRS MLAs and party workers staged a dharna protesting against the alleged negligence of the doctors and lack of amenities resulting in the deaths of children.
TRS MLAs Vinaya Bhaskar and Rajaiah led a large number of party activists in the protest when a group of ministers arrived here on a fact-finding mission into the deaths of children.
The TRS activists had heated argument with the police, who asked the protestors to leave the place. Police later arrested the MLAs and other activists and cleared the area.
Ministers Kondru Murali, Baswaraju Saraiah, Ramireddi Venkata Reddy and Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy visited the hospital and interacted with the doctors in an attempt to understand the problems faced by them.
Junior doctors raised slogans against Kondru Murali in protest against lack of proper amenities in the hospital. They told the media that the government was not providing enough funds and there was also shortage of nurses. They said they were being unnecessarily blamed by the general public for the fault of the government. (NSS)
