Hyderabad: Tension in Mangalhat area after a man dies in police custody

Mild tension prevailed in Mangalhat area when a 40-year-old man, who was allegedly picked up for questioning by the Mangal Hat Police, died a few hours later.

 According to sources, the victim, Bheem Singh, a private lighting decorator, was brought to the Mangal Hat police station for questioning on Saturday morning in a case pertaining to a minor brawl he had with his friend. When his mother Jayashri Bai went to police station, the cops asked her to get Bheem Singh’s Aadhar Card. On return, Bheem Singh reportedly told her mother that he was badly beaten up by the police personnel. His brother Mahavir Singh was not allowed to meet Bheem Singh when he went to the police station. In the evening, Bheem Singh reportedly collapsed in the police station’s bathroom. He was immediately rushed to the Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

BJP MLA Raja Singh, along with the relatives of Bheem Singh, staged dharna before the police station and demanded action against the guilty officials. They also demanded judicial enquiry into the death and alleged that Bheem Singh died due to torture by the police personnel.

Police began investigation after shifting the body to the OGH mortuary for post-mortem. (INN)
