Tension in Jammalamadugu after TDP men pelt stones at cops

Tension prevailed in Jammalamadugu town of the district today after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists pelted stones at the police after they were stopped near the municipal office.

The police initially baton charged the stonepelting mob and later fired teargas shells to disperse them, a police officer said, adding that the situation continued to be tense, though it was under control.

“Prohibitory orders were already imposed in the town in view of the elections and yesterday’s incidents of violence in Jammalamadugu town. Efforts are on to nab those responsible for the violence,” the police officer said.

TDP activists had tried to barge into the municipal office after which they were immediately stopped by police.

However, they hurled stones at police, prompting the cops to use force to disperse them, he said.
