Is tension growing between Saudi King and Crown Prince?

Riyadh: Rifts between Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman is allegedly widening.

According to the report published in News18, the tensions between the duo is reportedly increased after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year.

It may be mentioned that last month, during the King’s trip to Egypt, his entire security team was changed as a precautionary measure. It is alleged that one of the security staff of the original team is loyal to Crown Prince.

The rift between them became more visible when the name of Crown Prince was not included in the list of guests to receive the King.

It may be mentioned that usually, the crown prince receives the King when he returns from a foreign trip.

It may be recalled that in the absence of the King, the prince had appointed Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan as the Ambassador to the US and full brother, Khalid bin Salman as the Defence Minister.

Expressing views on the appointments, a spokesperson of the Saudi embassy in Washington said that King of Saudi Arabia usually delegates powers to Crown Prince whenever he is on a foreign trip.

Recently, the crown prince completed his three-country tour. He visited India, Pakistan and China.
