Tension in AP villages over desecration of Ambedkar statue

Tension prevailed in two areas in Ramachandrapuram sub division following another incident of desecration of Dr Ambedkar statue in Lolla village of Rayavaram mandal and vandalizing of Ambedkar flexi board in Yedida Sithanagaram village of Mandapet rural mandal today.
Dalits, on hearing the news, gathered in large numbers in the two villages and staged dharna demanding immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for it.
State”Mala Mahanadu” President Dr Rathnakar who visited both the places along with his followers, alleged that it was the handiwork of some communal elements and wanted the police to bring them to book.
Mandapet MLA Vegulla Jogeswerarao visited the scene and held discussions with dalit elders and their leaders.
Revenue and police officials also tried unsuccessfully to pacify the demonstrators to call off their stir.
But they did not relent and continued their stir demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Sub Divisional police officer Srinivas told UNI that the situation in both the villages though tense was under control.
A dog squad and a clues team were pressed into service to track down the miscreants. UNI
