Kutch: Tension prevailed in parts of the Anjar in Kutch district today where the Vishwa Hindu Parishad called a day-long shutdown alleging that members of a particular community were behind the kidnapping of two women in the town.
A shop was set ablaze by a mob yesterday alleging that the members of the community to which its owner belongs had kidnapped the two women of a different faith, Kutch (West) Superintendent of Police Makrand Chauhan said.
“The women aged 23 and 26, had gone missing since February 28. Their relatives have filed a missing complaint.
They have not been traced so far,” the police official said.
In view of the VHP’s shutdown call, which evoked response in different parts of the town, police were deplyed in large numbers to maintain law and order, he said.
