A tense situation prevailed over the DCCB elections in Kadapa with the sudden disappearance of the election officer and the YSRCP leaders accusing the Congress leadership of enacting a “kidnap drama” of the officials to postpone the elections.
As a matter of the election officer Chandrashekar’s wife had lodged a compliant in the One Town Police Station that her husband had been missing since Tuesday night.
Suspecting that the Kiran Kumar Reddy administration had hatched a plan to postpone the elections to the post of DCCB Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the YSRCP supporters rushed to the DCCB office and launched a protest dharna. In the meantime Congress legislator from Kamalapur, Veerasiva Reddy reached the spot along with this supporters.
The YSRCP supporters on seeing the Congress legislator and his supporters attacked his convoy and hurled chappals leading to a tense situation. The police force arrived at the spot and controlled the situation. The YSRCP supporters led by Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, brother of late YSR and a former minister, along with many YSRCP legislators commenced a protest dharna before the bank. At the same time the Congress legislator lodged a complaint against the YSRCP supporters for attacking him and his convoy.
Lambasting the “sinister” moves of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government of trying to put off the polls by staging the kidnap drama of the election office, Vivekananda Reddy threatened to commit suicide if the elections were not held as per the notification.
Meanwhile the District Collector had entrusted the conduct of the elections to another officer and at the same time ordered an inquiry into the sudden disappearance of the election official.(NSS).
