Tenants stab, shoot woman to death, injure son in Ghaziabad

New Delhi, July 08: A 50-year-old woman was stabbed and shot to death and her son was seriously injured when two men temporarily residing in their Sahibabad house attacked them following a row on Tuesday afternoon.

The police said Sublesh Malik was declared dead on arrival at hospital; son Deep is still under observation at the Fortis Hospital.

The police are still uncertain about the reason behind the attack — they suspect it was triggered by a row between them and the mother-son duo.

The accused are absconding, the police said.

Sahibabad police have registered a case based on Sublesh’s husband M S Malik’s complaint against the two, Himanshu and Sonu. Malik has told police that the two were cousins of the family’s regular tenant — Jeetendra Singh, a Supreme Court advocate — who is at present in Hardwar.

According to Malik’s complaint, Singh had introduced Himanshu and Sonu to the family as his cousins and asked them to let the two stay till his return from Hardwar.
The family lives in Sector-2, Rajendra Nagar, Sahibabad.

Neighbours have told the police that they heard more than one gunshot from the house around 12.30 pm.

Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Yadvendu said, “Jeetendra Singh has gone to Hardwar to perform religious ceremonies. His cousins Himanshu Singh comes from Devas in Madhya Pradesh and Sonu is a resident of Hasanpur, Mathura. They were staying in Singh’s rented accommodation.”

The police suspect the two had an argument with the mother-son duo over something, followed by the violence. “Himanshu and Sonu stabbed the woman a couple of times and also shot her,” Yadvendu said. “Her son must have overpowered one of them, when he was also attacked with a knife.”

He said, “We are yet to find out the reason behind the attack.”

That, a senior officer said, can be found out only after Deep Malik recuperates and gives a statement to the police.

The officer said neighbours came out of their houses after hearing gunshots and saw the two men run away. “One of the neighbours called the police and we found the woman bleeding heavily,” the officer said. “She was declared dead on arrival at GTB Hospital”.
