Tenant farmers in state to get ID cards

Hyderabad, January 04: Revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said that tenant farmers in the state will be issued identity cards and issued instructions to officials to this effect.

The decision was taken at a review meeting called by the minister at his chambers where he conferred with officials of agriculture, revenue departments and bankers. The review meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.

The decision was taken keeping in mind the heavy losses that the tenant farmers suffer in times of any natural calamity.

The help that the government extends goes to the farmer who owns the land though it is the tenant farmers who bear the brunt of it.

With the help of the identity cards, the state government can make sure that the provision of input subsidy, seeds and other incentives are made available to the tenant farmers.

The ID card would be issued from the next kharif season.

The minister has asked the officials to send the guidelines regarding the issuance of the identity cards to district collectors so that they can hold allparty meetings at the district level to elicit objections and suggestions, a press release said.
