A ten year old boy was killed and two others injured when a school boundary wall crashed after being hit by a mini-truck today, police said.
The deceased Vevek Kechua (10), a student of Class IV in Sector-6 NAC Steel Township Primary School, was crushed
under a wall which collpased after being hit by the truck.
The mini truck had brought rice to the school for mid-day mill programme. After unloading the goods, the truck was reversing to go back when it hit the boundary wall.
It was around 11.15 AM and the school had just completed its morning session. There were students in the
campus.
The driver was finding it difficult to negotiate due to the presence of so many kids, who were running here and there.
The truck hit the boundary wall near the entrance of the school while it was in the reverse, police said.
The wall along with the heavy iron gate came down under the impact. Kechua, a resident of Sector-5 Dus Quarter,
who was standing near the gate, was buried under debris of the falling gate. Priyanka Haripal, a Class II student, was also hit by the debris and was seriously injured.
The supervisor, Prafulla Samantaray also sustained serious injuries. Both Haripal and Samantray have been
admitted to Ispat General Hospital, police said.
Meanwhile, angry residents nearby staged a road block demanding compensation and city DSP R Bhoi was in
discussion with them.
Speaking over phone from the spot, Bhoi said, “the two injured have been shifted to IGH and we are in discussion with the relatives and friends of the injured.”
