Ten-year murder mystery cracked

Hyderabad, June 11: The arm of the law is indeed long enough to catch up with the criminals even after a decade, proved a murder case cracked by the North Zone Task Force team recently. Solving the mystery behind the gruesome murder of an individual 10 years ago, the police on Thursday arrested two of the victim’s family.

According to Task Force DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy, Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi, a habitual offender facing several cases, was chided by his brother Mohammad Mahboob Qureshi and uncle Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, a butcher, for damaging the family’s reputation.

Yousuf had even started to misbehave with his elder brother’s wife much to the annoyance of the family. Vexed with his ways, Mahboob and Ibrahim thrashed him one day. Far from reforming, Yousuf held a grudge against Ibrahim. He waited for the right moment and attacked Ibrahim with a butcher’s knife causing serious head injuries and fled. Ibrahim, however, survived the attack that happened about 12 years ago.

Two years after the attack, Yousuf was spotted by Mahboob in a toddy compound. He immediately called Ibrahim and both struck a friendly conversation with him and made him drink in access.

Later, they took Yousuf to Ibrahim’s house at Gachibowli and slit his throat. They burnt the body in a septic tank and disposed of the remains. They even threatened the other family members against revealing the crime to anybody. Mahboob later shifted to Karnataka and has been working as a labourer.

On receiving credible information, the task force police apprehended both the accused in Trimulgherry where they were moving under suspicious circumstances with lethal weapons. On interrogation, they confessed to the crime.
