Kobra, September 23: Atleast six people lost their lives when an under construction chimney at the Bharat Aluminium Co Ltd (Balco) site here collapsed. All the deceased are reported to be labourers working at the site.
The chimney of the power plant was under construction at the time. According to initial reports, seventy more people are feared trapped inside the debris.
“Around 100 people might have been working during the time. We can’t however say what actually happened. There was lighting initially. We just saw the chimney falling and we also heard a loud thud and rushed hear,” an eye witness told Zee News.
Injured people have been rushed to the nearest hospital. The company has also called in crane and an ambulance to the spot to clear the debris.
According to reports, angry workers have also manhandled some officials. Moreover, rescue operation has been affected due to bad lighting.
