Gandhinagar, January 09: Ten Indian fishermen have been detained by Pakistan’s Maritime Security and four boats seized, a fishermen’s body official said Saturday.
According to National Fishworkers Forum secretary Manish Lodhari, five fishing boats -Rajrajeshwari, Hariprasad, Rajmukat, Vinayak and Daryadil – were stopped by the Pakistani marine security men Friday while they were fishing off the Jhakhau coast in Kutch in Indian territorial waters along with their complement of 17 fishermen.
Subsequently Daryadil and seven of the fishermen were released but the remaining four boats along with the ten fishermen were taken away to Pakistan.
“Those allowed to go were either very young or the aged,” Lodhari said from Porbandar.
Porbandar Boats Association president Hiralal Siyal said that Mohammed Alisha, chairman of the Pakistan Fishermens Forum, has confirmed that the captive fishermen and the seized boats have reached Karachi.
All the boats are registered in Porbandar.
