(Siasat News) Asafia Library was established in 1891 at Afzalgunj. It seems that some miscreants are bent upon eradicating the identity of this library. Its name was changed from Asafia Library to State Central Library. Nobody object to it.
Water Board constructed a water tank in the premises of the library recently, with an expenditure of Rs.4.25 crore. It was inaugurated by the then, C.M. of A.P. Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Earlier, there used to be a cycle stand at that place. The tank reserves Krishna water and supplies it to the neighboring localities of Maharajgunj, Goshamahal, Afzalgunj etc.
Recently, the trend of constructing temples at historical places, in Govt. offices and other places had developed. As part of it, a concrete wall was constructed under this water tank and a temple was erected in it. Earlier, there was no such temple in the premises of the library. When an enquiry was made, it was noticed that the employees of the library have constructed this temple. If Govt. keeps quiet on such activities of its employees for constructing temples in Govt. offices, will it allow its employees belonging to Muslims, Sikhs and Christians to construct the places of their worships? If such permission is given, it would be presumed that the Govt. is promoting Ganga-Jamuna civilization.
Some of the intellectuals of the city opine that wherever temples have been constructed in Govt. offices, permission should also be given for the construction of Mosques, Churches and Gurudwaras. It is said that the temple construction in the library was done under the supervision of a minister who donated a huge amount for it.
It may be recalled that the Governor of A.P. in February had written in response to a letter that no permission would be given to construct any religious structure in any Govt. office. Governor is requested to pay attention to this issue.
