Vizianagaram, April 05: Ugadi, Telugu New Year’s Day, was celebrated in a traditional way throughout the district on Monday.
The district cultural committee organised the celebrations at Collector’s Auditorium in which Minister for Transport Botcha Satyanarayana, Parliament member Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi, MLC Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah and others participated.
Rallapalli Rama Subba Rao Avadhani read out ‘Raasi phalalu’ from ‘Srikhara nama samvatsara panchagam’. Mr. Satyanarayana, Dr. Jhansi Lakshmi and Mr. Veerabrahmaiah wished people prosperity, peace and joy in the new year.
Later, Mr. Satyanarayana felicitated the Avadhani and witnessed cultural programmes of Ramana Kumari and Vagdevi troupes.
Dr. Jhansi Lakshmi gave away mementoes to the cultural groups.
