Hyderabad, March 30: The Telugu Desam Party celebrated its 30th formation day on Tuesday with party president N. Chandrababu Naidu calling upon workers and functionaries to rededicate themselves towards uplifting the downtrodden and eradicating poverty.
Addressing party workers after cutting a huge cake at NTR Bhavan, the TDP headquarters here, Mr. Naidu said that the TDP was born out of a historical necessity 30 years ago and asserted that there would not be any compromise with the basic principles on which the party was founded by former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao.
Apart from focussing on eradication of poverty, the party would fight relentlessly to get a fair deal to farmers, women, BCs and youth, he said.
He also said that the Polit Bureau members and senior party leaders would meet soon to chalk out a detailed programme for the next 14 months to bring TDP closer to the people.
Taking a dig at Praja Rajyam and TRS, Mr. Naidu said that a party which was formed two years ago had merged with Congress and that TRS would also follow suit.
He felicitated about 70 party activists and handed over a scooter made especially for a disabled worker.
Senior leader and MLA M. Narasimhulu said that the party would continue to work even in the face of formation of separate Telangana.
Playing with sentiments
Another leader E. Dayakar Rao accused TRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao of playing with the sentiments of the people and said that TRS would be buried in Telangana and not TDP.
Several senior leaders including T. Devender Goud and K. Yerran Naidu spoke on the occasion.
