Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Andhra Pradesh home minister Kodela Siva Prasad was granted bail after he voluntarily surrendered before a judicial magistrate. A case under six sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against him for staging a dharna at a police station at Narasaraopet, Guntur district, on 23 January last year, It may recalled that the TDP had launched an agitation on 23 January last year, protesting against malpractices in the preparation of electoral rolls for the election to co-operative bodies. The police prevented protesters from marching to the house of Andhra Pradesh Co-operatives Minister Sri K V Krishna Reddi in Narasaraopet town, resulting in skirmishes between the police and TDP workers. The TDP had staged dharna at the police station, alleging that the police committed excesses and demanded suspension of the Deputy Superintendent of Police. PTI
