Hyderabad, April 18: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has demanded Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to be ready for an open debate with party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on their respective assets.
At a press conference, senior party leader Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said amassing of wealth by Mr. Reddy in a short period of over six years has surprised many and he should prepare himself for a debate to let people know everything before the by-elections in Kadapa.
Trading charges and counter-charges was of no use and the issue of corruption and amassing wealth could be settled once for all with such a debate either before media or any other suggested body, Mr. Rao said. The argument of YSR Congress Party that whether Mr. Naidu did not make money when in power had no buyers as the latter was ready for a debate.
“The State and Central governments are hesitating to take action against Mr. Jagan with the fear that he will expose the role of AICC president Sonia Gandhi in the large-scale corruption during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime as the Chief Minister”, Mr. Veerabhadra Rao said.
There was no correlation between the affidavits filed by Mr. Jagan’s family during 2004, 2009 and 2011 elections with regard to their assets. How could YSR gift higher extent of land to his son and other family members when he had lesser land as shown in his 2004 election affidavit, the TDP leader sought to know.
The TDP leader posed questions to Mr. Jagan on multiplication of his assets between 2004 and 2011 and rise in his income from just Rs. 9 lakh in 2004 to Rs. 465 crore in 2011 and why he had not mentioned about his mansions in Bangalore in Hyderabad in his election affidavit. The Congress party had an equal role in the corruption of both YSR and Mr. Jagan, the TDP leader alleged.
