Telgi sentenced to 5 year RI in fake stamp paper case

New Delhi, August 03: A Delhi court today sentenced fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi to seven years rigorous imprisonment in a case relating to recovery such instruments in 2005.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Karkardooma courts here awarded the prison term to Telgi, who is afflicted with HIV virus and lodged at a Bangalore jail, and imposed on him a fine of Rs five lakh.

During the arguments on sentence, Anwar Ahmed Khan sought a lenient view of the court against the convict on the ground that he had suffered enough and has been incarcerated for several years.

The prosecutor, on the other hand, demanded adequate punishment against him stating that he had forged and fabricated the government securities.

Telgi had pleaded guilty in the case in 2008.
