The telephone services have completed 130 years in Hyderabad. Telephone services began in Hyderabad during the period of 6th Nizam, Mir Mahboob Ali Khan. Telephone department was established in the year 1884 in Hyderabad. The first telephone line was laid from Dewdi of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan to the Dewdi of Maharaja Narendra Bahadur. Later the service was extended to the government offices, residences of officers and rich persons. Initially services of Mumbai Telephone Company were hired. The said company extended its services till March 1886. The telephone used during those days was quite heavy.
