Telanganites hoist black flags

Hyderabad, November 02: Several Telangana organisations, employees and students observed Andhra Pradesh State Formation Day celebrations as `Vidroha Dinam’ (betryal day) across the region today.

In response to a call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), its party cadre hoisted black flags at all public places in the State capital.

However, they were soon removed by the police.

Party chief K Chandrasekhara Rao hoisted black flag at Telangana Bhavan.

Several supporters including employees and students organised protests programmes at the Telangana Martyrs memorial in the Gun Park opposite the Assembly. Several intellectuals and writers also participated in the programme.

At the Osmania University several student unions organised a protest rally on the campus which was obstructed by the police.

In several Telangana districts also TRS and other organisations registered their protest against AP Formation Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the 1969 Telangana Movement Founders Forum (TMFF) has demanded that the State Government withdraw the directive on singing `Ma Telugu Talli’ at school assemblies and to take up effective steps for promoting national integration.

TMFF president K Chiranjeevi, addressing a press conference here today, said that the State song was creating confusion among Telangana people and marring national integration. “Neraly 30 percent non-Telugu people live in Telangana. Of them, nearly 15 per cent are Urdu-speaking.

How can the government insist that all children sing `Ma Telugu Talliki…’?’’ he argued and wanted the chief minister to convene an allparty meeting to discuss the issue.

He said singing of the national anthem at educational institutions was enough to promote the spirit of national integration in the student community. Formation of smaller states, including Telangana, was the answer to all such controversies, he claimed.
