Hyderabad: The formation of Telangana State Wakf Board could become the topic for legal inquiry and it could be challenged in High Court. Wakf Protection Committee and other organizations are getting ready to challenge the formation of Telangana State Wakf Board. They contend that the formation of the present Wakf Board is in contravention of section 16 of Wakf Act 1995. They say that the former members of the dislodged Wakf Board cannot be included on the present Wakf Board.
It may be mentioned that while forming the new Wakf Board, two members have been included who were also the members of the cancelled Wakf Board.
According to the records, the then Secretary of Minorities Welfare Dept. had dismissed Wakf Board in 2004 issuing notification number 271. In the previous Wakf Board, two members, namely; Mohammed Saleem and Akbar Nizamuddin were included. There were allegations against the former Wakf Board that it kept pending 137 items of the agenda which resulted in heavy losses to the Wakf Board.
