Telangana: Thirsty children died searching for water, mother critical

Adilabad: Amid the scorching heat in Telangana two children died of thirst while walking through a forest in Telangana’s Adilabad district on Sunday.

According to reports, two children who was accompanying their mother to a marriage died of thirst and the mother found unconscious a kilometre away from the boy’s dead bodies. She is said to be critical.

Adilabad police said Yeladi Lakshmi -a widow from Lingampalli village- started from home with her two sons Madhu (12) and Ashok (8) on Sunday morning to attend a marriage in another village. But the children collapsed due to thirst and unbearable heat. The mother ran in search of water but she too fainted in the heat.

Her family members began looking for her by evening as the three did not reach the marriage venue

Telangana sizzled on Monday with Ramagundam recording a highest of 45 degree Celsius. While Nalgonda, Bhadrachalam and Kammam reported 44 degrees, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Warangal recorded 43 degrees and Hyderabad 42 degrees.

Heat wave conditions likely to continue over many places in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Khammam, Warangal, Rranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar in Telangana. The government has appealed people to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from sunstroke.
