Telangana Territorial Council Being Considered To Douse T Turmoil ?

The Congress High Command seemed to have zeroed on a possible solution to resolve the Telangana turmoil after prolonged consultations and discussions at various levels — political, non-political and official.

The Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, after his one month deadline on January 28 all-party meeting, is understood to have studied various options before the central government based on the discussions with leaders of various political parties, intelligence inputs, assessments of important leaders like the Chief Minister, APCC President, Governor of AP and also Governor of Tamilnadu who also served as the CM of AP. Even the recommendations of the Justice Sri Kirishna Committee was also kept in view while working out a solution to resolve the long pending T issue.

According to informed political circles, the Union Home Minister seemed to have felt that the setting up of Telangana Territorial Council with a special financial package on the lines of the Bodoland Territorial Council in Assam state would be the best possible solution to resolve the Telangana issue, which should not only satisfy the people of both the regions in the state but also check the demand for separate states like Vidharba, Gorkhaland etc.

This formula of the Union Home Minister is likely to be discussed by the Congress Core Committee comprising from others Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC President Sonia Gandhi. After a thorough discussions on the pros and cons of the formula, the same made be announced. However it has to be noted here that the TRS and also the Congress MPs from the Telangana region besides the BJP and CPI may not accept the formula as they had been repeatedly saying that nothing short of a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital would be acceptable.

The Congress High Command is also aware that its formula might also trigger off law and order problem in the state. In order to be ready for any eventuality, the central leadership has summoned Governor ESL Narasimhan to the national capital on February 8 to discuss the issue and also the steps to be taken to ensure that there would be no breach of law and order.(NSS).
