Hyderabad, March 25: Telangana Telugu Desam MLAs have sought “criminal action” against Srikrishna Committee members for their “unconstitutional and undemocratic” observations against the people of the region in chapter 8 of their report.
Addressing a press conference, the MLAs — A. Revanth Reddy, S. Venkata Veeraiah and M. Kishen Reddy — said by such observations, the Committee has not only gone beyond its brief but insulted the four crore people of Telangana by suspecting their long cherished desire to have separate State within the ambit of the constitution and questioning their wisdom.
At a separate press conference later, MLAs, Nagam Janardhan Reddy and S. Venugopala Chary too demanded criminal prosecution and wondered how a “non- statutory committee” could come up with such “wild conclusions”.
Mr. Revanth Reddy alleged that all that the Srikrishna Committee seemed to have done was to include as chapter 8 the “secret report” given by the Seemandhra leaders on their perception if Telangana was formed.
The disclosure also exposed the members’ blatant antipathy towards Telangana.
They criticised TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao for describing TDP in Telangana as ‘dead body’ and wondered why he had forged alliance with such a party in 2009 Assembly elections and why he was making all out efforts to lure the TDP MLAs.
‘Trade transaction’
On the reports about merger of TRS with Congress, Mr. Revanth Reddy described it as a “ trade transaction” mortgaging the interests of Telangana to a party of betrayers and ridiculed Mr. Rao’s claim that he would take the opinion of four crore people of the region before taking a final decision. He said Mr. Rao had given enough hints of such a merger in the past, by praising the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi and even offering to wash her feet if separate Telangana was given.
