Telangana students end their four-day fast

Hyderabad, March 21: The four-day fast of Telangana students at the Arts College came to an end yesterday after Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof Kodandaram assured them to take forward the separate Telangana agitation in the coming days.

Nearly 30 students, under the banner of Telangana Vidyarthi Aikya Vedika, sat on an indefinite fast at the Arts College on March 17 demanding introduction of a bill on separate Telangana in the ongoing Parliament session.

Eight of the students, whose condition turned serious after three days of fasting, were yesterday shifted to Gandhi hospital for treatment while the others continued their fast. yesterday, Prof Kodandaram and other Telangana supporters including Chukka Ramaiah and Konda Laxman Bapuji, visited the camp and convinced the students to call off their fast.

“The leaders told us that the movement would be strengthened. We called off the fast after getting convinced,” Vedika spokesperson K Mahesh said. Seven of the students were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
