Telangana stir: Bandarru taken into preventive custody

Hyderabad, December 06: BJP Andhra Pradesh unit chief and former union minister Bandarru Dattatreya, supporting demand for statehood for Telangana, was among the 200 odd party workers taken into preventive custody by police when they tried to proceed towards Rajbhavan here today.

The state unit of BJP which is also in favour of separate statehood for Telangana region had organised “Chalo Rajbhavan” supporting its demand.

The party workers led by Dattatreya took out a rally from Khairtabad to Rajbhavan demanding the central leadership of the Congress to move a bill for Telangana state in parliament, and also in the state assembly.

A large number of police personnel deployed at Rajbhavan put up barricades on the roads to prevent the workers from proceeding towards Rajbhavan.

When the rally reached the Rajbhavan chowrasta, police took the party workers into custody.
