Hyderabad: Telangana’s Director-General of Police has passed orders requiring all units to give weekly off to police personnel in line with the decision recently taken by the State government.
Accordingly, Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, Anjani Kumar, has mandated all wings in Hyderabad city to grant weekly off to police personnel up to the rank of Assistant Sub Inspector and to properly document the same.
A total of 1,367 personnel, comprising 821 police constables, 92 head constables, 321 home guards, 17 women home guards, 38 women police constables, five women head constables and 73 Assistant Sub Inspectors, will benefit from this long-awaited measure, starting this week. Due to staff crunch in the three Police Commissionerates — Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad, the police officials could not previously implement the decision relating to weekly off.
“The Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) is recruiting thousands of SC/ST Sub Inspectors and police constables and the process will be completed soon. The selected candidates will get training. After their training, the newly recruited police will get postings, which would facilitate the implementation of weekly offs in the entire State.
There are at least 55,000 cops, working in different wings in the State. However, their numbers would soon go up,” sources said.
The Police Department in the city is now streamlining the system of documenting weekly offs. “Our office will obtain a weekly off chart from all Police Stations through the concerned Assistant Commissioners of Police and they will be monitored,” police officials said.
Weekly offs would give relief to police officers working round the clock and enhance the quality of their work in policing. The weekly offs are being designed to keep in view the availability of staff in each district, though the focus is on helping staff to spend quality time with family members and take care of their health.
