Telangana state council of Higher Education set up

The Telangana government has issued a GO setting up of Telangana State Council of Higher Education.

According to the GO issued today under Section 101 of Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act, 2014 (Central Act No. 6 of 2014), the Telangana government is empowered to make such adaptations and modifications of any law (as defined in Section 2(f) of the Act) made before June 2, 2014, whether by way of repeal or amendment as may be necessary or expedient, for the purpose of facilitating the application of such law in the State of Telangana before expiry of two years from June 2, 2014 and thereupon every such law shall have effect subject to the adaptations and modifications so made until altered, repealed or amended by a competent Legislature or other Competent Authority.

It has become necessary to adapt the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education Act, 1988 and rules and regulations made thereunder for the purpose of facilitating their application in relation to the State of Telangana. Therefore, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 101 of Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act of 2014 (Central Act No. 6 of 2014), the Governor passed the order creating Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education Act, (Telangana Adaptation) Order, 2014 deemed to have come into force from June 2, 2014. The Andhra Pradesh General Clauses Act, 1891 applies for interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of a State Act. In Section 4 of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education Act, 1988 and in Section 1, sub-section (i) the words “Andhra Pradesh”, shall be replaced by the word “Telangana”. (NSS)
