Telangana: report to be submitted by Friday

New Delhi, December 29: With an appeal to maintain peace, the Srikrishna Committee constituted to examine the demand for a separate state of Telangana said on Tuesday that its report which aims to provide a “permanent solution” to the decadesold problem would be submitted by Friday.

In Hyderabad, the nine Telangana Congress MPs called of their huger strike launched on Monday, as they achieved their objective in a little over 24 hours later: lifting of all cases against students involved in agitations for and against the bifurcation of the state.

The members of the fivemember panel, set up by the Centre on February 3, said they would submit report to Minister P Chidambaram. Though the recommendations given in the twovolume report was not divulged, Justice (retd) B N Srikrishna’s comments on it were replete with metaphors of childbirth, indicating that his panel could end up being the midwife helping the birth of a new state.

Asked whether it was possible to find a solution to a 50yearold Telangana problem in a few months’ time, he said, “It is for the government to think over it (our proposals) and find a solution; and it is for the people to accept it.”
