Telangana ranks second in the country with 25 operational SEZs across the State.
As per the list of operational SEZs released by Union Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman in her written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, there are 199 operational SEZs across the country. With 36 SEZs Tamil Nadu is on the top and is followed by Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka with 25 SEZs each. Andhra Pradesh is on third position With 19 SEZs, followed by Gujarat – 18, Kerala – 14, Uttar Pradesh – 11, West Bengal – 7, Haryana – 6 and Rajasthan – 4. Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Punjab have two operational SEZs while there just one SEZ in Chattisgarh.
Interestingly, till June 2, 2014, the undivided Andhra Pradesh was on top in the country with 44 operational SEZs. (INN)
