Hyderabad: Though the Shariah(Islamic law) is clear pertaining to marriages in Islam it has been in controversy for some time now. Be it related to the solemnizing or dissolving Muslim marriage, or a local Muslim’s marriage to a foreigner, these issues are always dragged and turned into political issues.
A meeting was organized on Sunday where leading Muslim scholars and activists demanded the Telangana Government be circumspect about Muslim community pertaining to passing ordinance regarding foreign national’s marriages to local Muslim girls
The meeting was held to suggest amendments and objections to a proposed draft by the State Minorities Welfare Department which seemed to interfere with the Shariah (Islamic law). Speaking of the clauses proposed in the draft, Maulana Syed Mushtaq Malik of Tehreek-e-Muslim Shabaan said, “It is unacceptable”.
One of the clauses that stated a depository amount of 10 lakhs on the bride’s name and presence of Minority welfare department and police at the girl’s marriage is not acceptable says a social activist M.A Khadeer.
Since Police in Hyderabad had recently arrested few foreign nationals who arrived in the city to marry minor Muslim girls and also Qazi’s indulging in human trafficking through solemnizing such marriages.
