Telangana MLAs refuse to budge

New Delhi, December 29: The assurances by the top leadership, including Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, Sonia Gandhi’s political adviser Ahmed Patel and law minister Veerappa Moily, on resolving the Telangana crisis have failed to mollify the agitating Congress legislators and state ministers from the region.

Congress downplays Tharoor’s tweet, says his approach is humanitarian
A delegation of nine ministers from Telangana met Mukherjee on Sunday night, seeking the Centre’s promise “not to backtrack on the Telangana issue”.

Mukherjee reportedly told the ministers that “some good news” would be available soon. He also asked them to withdraw resignations.

However, the agitating ministers refused. “We won’t take back our resignations till the high command acts within a time frame on Telangana. The doubts over home minister P Chidambaram’s second statement, that the issue called for more consultations and a greater consensus, must be clarified,” Andhra Pradesh civil supplies minister Krishna Rao said.

As the joint action committee on Telangana prepares for a state bandh on Tuesday, Congress legislators and parliamentarians from the region have urged the central leadership to “act immediately” on their demand in order to stop the protests from turning violent.
