Telangana lawyers to boycott courts

Hyderabad, December 06: The Joint Action Committee of Telangana Lawyers has decided to boycott courts all over the Telangana region, including High Court, in support of the Telangana Bandh called by the Telangana Rashtra Samthi. The JAC also decided to launch relay hunger strike from December 7 on the High Court premises.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, the JAC president, Mr C. Damodar Reddy, condemned police lathi-charge on the agitating students and others in the Telangana region.

Pointing out that the UPA government at the Centre had included formation of separate Telangana state at appropriate time with all-party consensus in the Common Minimum Programme, he urged the Centre to fulfil its promise by introducing a Telangana Bill in Parliament as the Congress-led UPA government has absolute majority in the Lok Sabha in the wake of the agitation launched by the students, youths, lawyers, teachers and others in the region.

Stating that the separatist movement gained momentum paralysing life in the region in the wake of fast-unto-death by TRS leader, Mr Chandrasekhara Rao, and his deteriorating condition, it was time for the Congress high command to take a positive decision on the issue and help end the ongoing agitation, he added. He appealed to the Union government to take immediate steps to place a Bill on Telangana statehood in Parliament.

Mr Damodar Reddy said that the avocates in the twin cities met in the city and unanimously resolved to boycott all the courts, including High Court.

The JAC secretary, Mr Satyam Reddy, appealed to all the advocates of Telangana region to boycott courts in support of the bandh in Telangana region. The PCC Legal Cell convenor, Mr G. Rama Rao, the secretary, Mr Kalyan Rao, and Mr T. V. Thippa Reddy were also present. (NSS)
