HYDERABAD: NIA special court in Hyderabad has awarded blast death penalty to Yasin Bhatkal and four others but have the no facility to carry out the hanging.
As per the status, the convicts in twin blasts cannot be hang because the Telangana jails does not have a single gallows in its prisons to carried out the death sentence.
The last execution was carried out was before 1978 and since then there have been no death sentences.
Every other state in their central prisons has gallows but not in the case of Telangana.
“We have no facility for hanging prisoners because we have not come across such cases in a long time. Though we have modernised our prisons, gallows are absent in all the prisons,” A Narasimha, Telangana inspector general of prisons, told Hindustan Times.
Prior to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam central jails are the only prisons to have such a facility.
“We had submitted a proposal to move Warangal and Chanchalguda prisons to different buildings from the current sites. We had also requested to set up gallows. But the proposal has not been approved yet. If the jails are moved, there will be gallows in the premises,” TS prisons chief V.K Singh told Deccan Chronicle.
