Telangana JAC to Intensify Statehood Agitation

Hyderabad, July 19: Intensifying its agitation in support of separate statehood, the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) today announced several programmes, including a visit to Delhi by its leaders, to press for their demand.

The JAC leaders would visit the national capital soon to drum up support for its proposed strike by “all sections of society” in August, the Committee’s Convener, M Kodandaram, told reporters here.

“We would like to meet the leaders of NDA and CPI in Delhi. We would also try to meet the Prime Minister,” he said.

The MPs, MLAs, MLCs from Telangana, who had quit their posts en masse in support of the statehood demand, need to put up a time-frame for getting the resignations accepted, he said.

The JAC Convener said its activists would on July 22 burn the effigies of leaders who had not yet quit their posts.

“On July 25, people should erase the name of Andhra Pradesh on boards and other places and write Telangana instead,” Kodandaram said, adding JAC also plans to organise a blockade of national highways in Telangana next month.

Coming down heavily on the campaign launched by non-Telangana leaders in Delhi in support of a united Andhra Pradesh, he said they cannot “force unity” on Telangana people.

“They are blocking the formation of Telangana. They are encroaching on our democratic aspirations and interests. If they continue to be like this, we will have to target the economic interests of those who are blocking Telangana,” he added.
