Telangana issue: TDP, PRP MLAs meet Andhra Guv

Hyderabad, February 03: TDP and Praja Rajyam MLAs hailing from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions met state Governor E S L Narasimhan here tonight and said there was no need to constitute a Central committee on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as majority people were opposed to it.

“Even if the Centre decides to constitute a committee, it should only be confined to eliciting public opinion and not for bifurcation of the state,” the delegation told the Governor in a memorandum.

“We have explained to the Governor that majority of the people of the state are for a unified Andhra Pradesh. We have also told him about the aspirations of the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions and discussed the ill-effects of smaller states,” senior TDP MLA Payyavula Kesav told reporters after the meeting with Governor.

“Since Narasimhan worked as Governor of Chhatisgarh prior to his appointment here, we need not tell him about the ill-effects of smaller states. He appreciated our stand on the issue,” Kesav said.

The Governor requested the MLAs to strive for maintaining peace in the state, he added.
