Telangana Government has decided to take steps to increase the production of onions in the State.
The decision has been taken in view of ongoing shortage of onions in the State. In the year 2014-15, the Telangana has produced about 4.9 lakh Metric Tonnes of onion on 15,000 Hectares. Mahabubnagar, Medak, Ranga Reddy and Nizamabad are the major onion producing districts. The State Government has decided to focus on increasing the production by providing incentives to the farmers.
Presently, Maharashtra is the largest producer of onion and controls over 30% of market across the country. (I
