Hyderabad: Telangana Police will host the first Indian Police Martyrs’ Memorial Run on October 16, state Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said today.
“Over 5,000 participants will join the Martyrs’ Memorial Run being organised by Telangana Police in association with the Ministry of Home Affairs to remember the sacrifices made by the men and women of the force in the country,” Sharma told reporters here.
The Martyrs’ Memorial Run will have three categories — 2 km, 5 km and 10 km. The event is an endeavour by the police forces to build community engagement and citizens will have an opportunity to run along with police personnel from across the country, he said.
“The first Indian Police Martyrs Memorial Run is our way to pay respects to the officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty and honour their sacrifices with involvement of citizens,” the Telangana Police chief said.
Sharma, who launched a website www.Policerun.In, said the Telangana Police plans to make the run an annual event.
“An expo will be held at People’s Plaza on October 15 and 16 for all partner police forces to create awareness of the activities of various wings of the police and during this event police equipment, weaponry, fleet etc will be displayed at stalls,” he said.
Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations are among the participating police organisations, Sharma added.
