Telangana govt impartial in SIT probe against Nayeem: Reddy

Karimnagar: Telangana Government will be impartial during the probe being conducted by SIT into crimes committed by slain Maoist-turned-gangster Nayeemuddin, state Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy said today.

“The Special Investigation Team is probing the crimes committed by Nayeem….Telangana Government will act impartially,” Reddy told reporters at Ramagundam in this district.

Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem alias Balanna (45), wanted in a string of cases including murder of an IPS officer, was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Shadnagar town in Mahabubnagar district on August 8.

He had formed a criminal gang and was allegedly involved in land grabbings, extortion and kidnapping.

Reddy said necessary action will be taken against those who had supported Nayeem.

So far, 62 cases were registered against Nayeem and his gang members in Telangana. The SIT had so far arrested over 50 people in connection with the cases pertaining to Nayeem, on charges of extortion, kidnapping, etc.

Referring to suicide by a police sub-inspector in Medak district, the minister said special counselling programmes have been arranged for the police personnel in order to de-stress them.

Responding to a query, he said formation of new districts has been taken up by government on popular demand. PTI
