Telangana elections: Congress, TRS, MIM eye on Muslim votes

Hyderabad: Telangana assembly elections are going to be held on December 7. Hectic political activities are witnessed in the state. The state has 40 to 45 per cent Muslim voters; as a result, all political parties are eyeing on Muslim vote bank.

While declaring Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) as pro-BJP parties, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has intensified the poll campaign in the state. Since MIM has supported KCR, Congress has cut ties with MIM and Asaduddin Owaisi. Similarly, MIM is making all efforts to save its traditional seats beside expanding the ambit.

There are fewer chances of Muslims voting TRS as it had not fulfilled the poll promises made during last elections. Thus there seems to be a direct battle between Congress and MIM.

Congress is playing reservation card to distance Muslim voters from TRS. It has also raised Waqf protection and issue of Urdu language. The opposition alleges that KCR government has closed down 90 pc minority institutions.
