Telangana Election 2018: Rs 5.8 Unaccounted cash seized from Warangal check post

Hyderabad: With only two days remaining for State Assembly elections, the State Police has today seized Rs 5.8 crore unaccounted cash from a car near a check post in Warangal today.

According to reports, the unaccounted money was seized from a car with three men traveling in it at Pembarthy check-post in Warangal’s Jangaon.

The Police have detained the three men including the driver said Warangal Commissioner of Police V Ravinder.

According to the Police commissioner’s statement a Hyderabad-based businessman has allegedly sent Rs 1.5 crore to Nama Nageshwara Rao, Rs 2 crore to Vaddiraju Ravichandra and Rs 2.3 crore to Konda Murali.

So far illegal goods and unaccounted cash worth around Rs 111 crore have been seized on separate occasions so far in poll-bound Telangana, officials said on Monday.

With only two days left for State to go on polls, the state has sought 279 companies of central forces of which 240 have arrived, News18 reports.

“Money influence in elections in India is going up. There is no denying of that. If you see the cash and goods’ seizure figures, it was Rs 76 crore during 2014 elections in combined Andhra Pradesh,” Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar has told.

The Chief Electoral officer said that any contesting candidate is permitted to spend money up to Rs 28 lakh for election expenditure while there is no such limit for a party on election expenditure.

“It came to our notice that there are political allegations and counter allegations in Kodangal. There was some cash seizure also from the constituency. We are keeping strict vigil there,” said Congress working president Revanth Reddy contesting from Kodangal.
