Telangana: Cong, TDP condemns KCR’s remarks

Hyderabad, April 18: Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Congress and main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today strongly condemned Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s warning that non-creation of a separate Telangana state would lead to a civil war in Andhra Pradesh and said this was “nothing but blackmailing”.

“This is nothing but blackmailing. KCR is provoking people through such unwarranted claims,” TDP spokesman S Chandramohan Reddy and senior Congress MLA E Pratap Reddy said separately today.

KCR, while presenting his case before the Justice Srikrishna Committee in New Delhi
yesterday, warned of a civil war if Telangana state was not created.

Reacting sharply to it, the TDP spokesman said the TRS president might have got a whiff that the Srikrishna Committee was against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“KCR presented his case before the Committee for a separate Telangana for four hours yesterday and was probably left with a feeling that the state would not be bifurcated. Hence, he was resorting to such blackmail by threatening of a civil war,” Chandramohan Reddy alleged.

Pratap Reddy too lashed out at KCR over the civil war remarks and asked the latter to refrain from such blackmailing tactics.

“Why did he submit a memorandum to the Committee and also personally present his case when he had no faith in it? He is staying safe but provoking gullible youth and claiming their lives,” the Congress MLA criticised.
