Telangana Cong leader urges Jagan not to attend Kaleshwaram project’s inauguration

Hyderabad (Telangana): Leader of Opposition Bhatti Vikramarka has written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, requesting him not to attend the inauguration of Kaleshwaram project on June 21.

“I have written very clearly in the letter regarding the Kaleswaram project to Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan and asked him not to attend. This project was started by the then Congress government, headed by the then Chief Minister Dr YS Rajashekhar Reddy. The project cost was Rs 38,000 crore then,” Vikramarka told ANI here.

The Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project is an under-construction multi-purpose irrigation project on Godavari river in Kaleshwaram, Bhoopalpally, Telangana.

Talking about the project, he said: “When the project started, then itself the government had spent about Rs 10,000 crore at the initial stage. The estimated irrigation area is 16,50,000 acre.”

“If the present government had stuck to the previous plans, by now we must have completed the project. But now the CM has redesigned it. Apart from that, the height of the project has been brought down to 100 meters from 152 meters. The total project cost has been raised to Rs 1.50 lakh crore.”

He also accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of inaugurating an incomplete project.

“The project is not even 15 per cent completed but KCR is trying to inaugurate it,” he said.

He said the Congress was against corruption, and not the project.

“We are not against the project, but we are against corruption. We are the people who brought projects to the state,” said Vikramarka.
